It all started in Sardinia, an island in the centre of the Mediterranean exposed to perturbations from the West, where the strong connection between surfing and art has brought forth a young man with great artistic talent: Vincenzo Ganadu, 29,who surfs and works here in Sardinia. He has had a passion for drawing from a very young age- not only at school, but also during his free time. This passion has accompanied him throughout his course of artistic study, and up to his graduation in sculpture studies in 1998. In 1995 he started to ride the first waves, 1996 saw his first personal sculpture exhibition where he presented " I Temerari " for the first time. These raised great interest in embarking on new forms of research. His interest in sculpture is ever-growing, as is the use and experimentation with new materials such as clay, iron, stone, wood, epoxy, bronze and ceramics – like each surf manoeuvre, each material has its own charm. Surfing has continued to be a source of inspiration for his works, which will be proposed as trophies at the PWA for the prestigious stage of the world windsurfing circuit to be held in the clear waters of the city of Alghero. In the same year he participated and won the children’s prize at the international wood-sculpture competition at S. Pierre de Chartreuse (Grenoble) France. Following this, during a cold, blustery winter in Sardinia, amongst numerous surfing bouts on the north coast of the island, he was inspired to create the ceramics for the "Swatch Chia Classic 2000" international windsurfing, surfing and kite surfing show. On this occasion Vincenzo Ganadu’s trophies reached the island of Maui, in this way widening his field of activity. The great joy of mastering colour as a form of expression is payment for the experience gained in recent years from the great masters of italian paiting. This emotion arrived with the first surfing paintings and from then on production became continuous, with surfing being inserted into all his works. This presence of the sport takes the form of the joyful moments of victory and the unforgettable experiences of a surfing trip. The originality of his works has interested high profile personalities in the world of surfing like : Jeff Hakman, Dave Kalama, Rusty Keaulana who have came to Sardinia to try out the waves of the Mediterranean, and last but not least, Nat Young who was present at the second edition of the " Italia Surf Expo 2000" at S. Marinella ( Roma). The appreciation of these great surfers have made the artistic production of Vincenzo Ganadu international. This artist continues to explore new aspects, to seek the pleasure of surfing and to travel and discover, in order to make his artistic production complete from all points of view.
